Professional Marble Polishing Tips
Being an owner of marble myself, I am always looking for new ways to improve or maintain it so it can look it’s absolute best. One day I was walking to get lunch from my office in Coral Cables and saw some contractors polishing marble. This immediately got my attention because I polish my own marble but have always wondered what it would be like to have it professionally polished. I didn’t want to ask any of the technicians any questions because my lunch break was limited and I didn’t want to interrupt them, so I instead saved the company’s number on my phone from one of their vans. I did this because I saw it as an excellent opportunity to learn more about marble and get the perspective of a professional with experience.
I got home later that day, called the number, and was greeted by a woman who was very knowledgeable about marble. I started asking questions regarding how to properly maintain marble and she even gave me advice and how to avoid common mistakes so I want to share all the information I have learned. A common mistake people make is polishing their marble without first removing any stains. The problem is that if you polish the marble first, the stains become much more visible and ruin the look of a smooth and clean polish. A common mistake people make when removing stains is using a “one size fits all” solution and use the same method to remove any type of stain. Knowing what type of stain it is such as ink, paint, or oil and addressing it accordingly can make a big difference and lead to better results. Removing stains can cause scratches and minor superficial damages to the marble that must be removed with a soft cloth or it can damage the marble when you start polishing.

Another thing to keep in mind is the quality of your marble polishing materials. Just reading a product that says it can polish marble is simply not enough. Look up the products and make sure they work for your type of marble, which brings me to my next point. All marble are not made equal, so knowing exactly the type of marble you have is paramount in maintaining it. Your polish may look great in the short term, but using the improper techniques can gradually wear away and damage your marble to a point where one day you start seeing the damage. Lastly, people often forget to apply a sealant after the polish. This preserves the polish for much longer and adds an extra layer of defense from foot traffic. This may be a lot to remember, but marble is worth the effort because of its uniqueness and appeal. After all, if this is all too much, hiring professionals to polish your marble is low risk will probably deliver better results because of their superior equipment and experience with marble.
